Todays human economic activity and its impact on the environment have significantly increased the likelihood of crisis situations caused by natural factors. A crisis situation is defined as a situation that develops in a given region as a result of an accident, hazardous natural phenomenon, catastrophe, natural disaster, or other incident that has already resulted in, or may result in, loss of life, harm to the health of citizens or the environment, significant material losses, and disruption to normal life. Thus, a natural crisis situation is based on a hazardous natural phenomenon. Natural emergencies are commonly classified as geophysical and geological, meteorological and hydrological, hydrogeological and marine hydrological hazards, and wildfires. The mere presence of these natural phenomena, in our opinion, does not necessarily indicate a disastrous or abnormal state of affairs. The authors of this article believe it is important, when examining this topic, to focus on their key characteristics and the factors influencing their development.
